We met for a normal Leadership Council meeting yesterday. Leadership council meetings consist of 20-30 small business leaders from around the state that share and help each other with the challenges of owning a small business. We had the Secretary of State talk to us about the Indiana Small Business portal as well as an AIG representative talk to us about pending legislation effects on business ownership. Often the side discussions are as important as the presentations. Yesterday was a first in the ~12 years on the Council, we had an afternoon retreat at Bankers Life Field House to strategize for best ways to positively influence small business in Indiana. Speaking of rubbing shoulders with decision makers, I had good conversations with an influential legislators wife (she is the owner of a small business) and a former legislator that is still very plugged into state and national politics. Great day; and a fun Pacers game to watch except for the end. I left a little early and passed up drinks afterwords because I had to drive home so I did not have to watch us loose our lead. These events and casual conversations are very important to the big picture in navigating the path to success.
